And those workers will come from overseas therefore more houses

Blame Mike Harris for this!! He is the one who cut out all shop courses in high school where students would then go into apprentiships or trades schools. That is where it all began.

Why can't the immigrants move to less populated provinces?

How the heck can afford these new homes?

Builders build to make money. Buyers pay cash up front or go into serious mortgage debt. Who wins here?

Liberals we created 120,000 jobs ,what they don’t tell you is those jobs are 40,000 dollar a year jobs so working but living in poverty.

Ford won't have a job in 3 years.

Can't afford a new home anyways

The USA has Mexicans for cheap labour work. We bring in Indians for this. We lower the standards to allow them to work here, and the work quality suffers.

What, did killing licencing requirements when he came into office not work? Maybe he'll open it up to younger ages, I mean why bother with the requirement to be adults?

and they need skilled labour. but labour should get CRS score 500 and master degree for eligible. Well done. ON Gov. ...

Will the universal basic income cover all the costs

I volunteer for paid schooling

Maybe he has friends in the construction industry 🤔😆

Condos, not apartments. ApartmentsAreForPeople. Condos.. well. Who can afford $1,000 a month on top of condo fees. They were intended to be first homes but now replace apartment buildings. Shame shame shame.

The problem is the Cons hate immigration. So good luck with that.

CBCfakeNews DefundCBC

Builders do not want skilled labour as they’re too expensive so they sub out trades to companies that hire semi-skilled and migrant workers that work at a piece rate. Builders build for profit regardless what government expects, this article is so out of touch w reality.

People rather slave away in front of a computer for better wages than hard labor.

How many workers does it take to destroy the green belt

🤔

awesome way to create jobs in this Country !

From what I’m hearing, there’s going to be a 90% reduction in construction 4 years from now in the 416 high-rise condo sector. The resi sector will also dry up all over the GTA.

They better pause Immigration, until they catch up on housing. Our Governments have no clue to what they are doing. Have been asleep for three years.

Kids don’t want to work

There goes greenbelt & farmland! DecisionsHaveConsequences Adding the population of London, ON annually to Canada, decisions have costs and Libs and NDP hold the biggest responsibility for where this is going. HealthCareCrisis HousingCrisis FoodCrisis

Damn sounds like they should pay better

Very easy solution. We don’t need 1/3 of the workforce to be employed in the public sector. Consultants do all the work anyway. Lots of opportunity to move those people into more productive jobs.

Some call this opportunity.

Don’t worry - JustinTrudeau and bankofcanada will crush this issue along with Canadas economy by raising interest rates yet again.

Good luck with that dream. 🤡

Why is every single trades union not in the high schools telling the kids how to become apprentices what there is to offer? Spend money on recruitment and education so you get more people in the trades.

That’s an easy problem to fix. Make the trade courses free. Everyone needs a job. People will be happy working in construction if they’re qualified.

Actually dirty unsafe work places and too much expected from each worker makes people look for other jobs

What about the people crossing the border that PP is complaining about? Can't they di these jobs? cdnpoli polqc

Govs continue to increase growth to suppress wages and then whine they can’t find staff

Construction workers are the most vulnerable with these high rates. First pre sales decline and projects get canceled then construction job decline.

Maybe we should start by not continually depleting our current workforce by exposing them to COVID. Fix COVID➡️fix these connected 'problems'. covidisnitover onpoli stopthespread

too much construction because of too many immigrants

Why don’t they hire people from Fords family?

Won’t happen.

And just where do they plan to get them? Or was that what Michael Ford was up to?

Then pay more. Need workers and can’t get any? You’re paying too little. Your offer sucks. This shit isn’t complicated.

Let's talk about the way the media helped surprised the June 2 election, let's talk about the greenbelt or Ford's checkered history. Hell there is a list of corruption that CBCAlerts refuses to cover in few of harsh words. Plz. start ACTUALLY doing your darn jo B

guess you should pay people to do jobs that actually matter more huh? stop exaggerating the need for stems and start preaching the truth also, we need MORE manual laborers in Canada.

Stop being a mouth piece for the Conservative Party. You wonder why Canadians are questioning the Media in🇨🇦. Stand up for Canada you cowards and stop bending over for cons. Let's talk about 4.5 BILLION misplaced from Ontario covid add $4.6 Billion missing in Alberta.

Those interest rates will fix that up in no time.

That has to be terrible for workers! Right? 🙄

Don't worry...the glut is coming

Same for QC,the number of workers on sites are 1/2 it used to be

'Shut up. Pay me!'

Lazy young generation

How about no requiring 17-20 year olds to find employers that will take an apprentice. If there’s so many positions open, find the people that want them not the other way around.

In other words, we need more immigrants, right?

Anybody who bought a new condo in a tall bldg in the GTA doesn't realize their walls contain urine-filled water bottles b/c workers weren't allowed enough break time to get down to the ground-level PortaPotties. Some labour shortages are b/c the working conditions are crap.

Funny because I know several individuals in that industry that can't find work, and or, are being laid off on a regular basis.

Well if you do away with apprenticeships And then force those people to have to pay for there own training ... um um um um ... and here we are .. short of trained workers ...

This is happening everywhere. Not just in the center of the universe.

You've JustinTrudeau made it easier to sit at home and get paid to do nothing, why would anyone want to work when you give them money for free.

All the tradesman fled that commie province

defundcbc

Hmmm. Maybe public schools shouldn’t have regarded Industrial Arts programs and Home Ec. Programs as unimportant and ended up cancelling them. All Fine Arts programs are also on the chopping block…what will be the long term effect of that I wonder….

Plenty of people looking for jobs.

Have they tried something like paying more? That’s so crazy an idea that it just might work!

It’s called immigration or have more kids, we saw this coming, but did nothing

Maybe vocational trade high schools should not have closed down. Making these trade jobs attractive at the high school level especially for kids who struggle in academics should never have been removed. Gave kids a chance to try different trades

they used to have apprentice programs that THEY paid for. now just gov't handouts and profits

Too much work and too low wages actually

I do t know about out east, but here in AB trades wages have barely moved since 2005. I'm self employed. I would be open to working g on some of these big projects if it was actually worth it. TLDR wages haven't moved, why work for a pittance

Maybe Canadian high schools should stop shuffling only their 'dumb' students into trade level courses. I know the govt makes more money off pushing kids into uni. & stigmatizing tradework, but it's shameful. Having a trade is a great job and ppl will always need workers.

Most of the 2 million people Canada will import will settle in the GTA. Healthcare is collapsing and housing is out of reach for many already. Will most of these people be medical professionals or construction workers? If not why import them?

They will also tell you that the red tape from the government is the real problem…missed that in your report.

Just like any industry with a 'labour shortage' - they need to make sure the pay and benefits are attractive enough to get workers to sign up and stay. Huge missed opportunity for construction is underemployment of women

And the majority of immigrants we are taking are unskilled lazy leeches. Why?

There's LOTS of workers in Ontario, something does not add up. This is just another excuse to bring in foreign workers to lower the wages, so the industry makes more money.

this is a fraud it's about getting more cheap foreign labour

I don't think new emigrants will work on construction and if they do, it will be Ukrainians.

Immigrants tend to work the hardest according to my husband who is in the industry. Workers can’t easily access far away sites making it hard to operate daily. Arrangements take efforts. You can’t hire too many workers as it will eat costs.

there's a lot of workers in ontario

Simple, Import slave from other poor country, we're good at it.

construction work is getting further and further from toronto the only thing left are the building jobs it is a lie that there are no people

Hopefully they don’t star farming the work out to unqualified people

It's 2023 and every job sucks now

You shouldn't need multiple certifications with multiple years of experience for entry level jobs. Once you start addressing that then you'll find plenty of ppl willing to do the work.

Maybe if they paid more, they could have more workers?

Don't worry Trudeau's Upcoming recession will take care of that problem

Keep importing Uber drivers.

One thing Ontario can do is make it easier for prospective workers to find apprenticeship training. All my colleagues and I experience websites that send us around in circles with no info.

Trying to justify uncontrolled mass migration? They can also give employment to these fake refugees if they wanted to. Its not like you need masters degree to work in construction. Or even better-do 'Just Transition' of all government workers into construction industry.

damn its almost like they arent paying enough. wonder if thats mentioned in the article.

they should be training staff then
