I interviewed ChatGPT for a job. Its performance surprised me.

Last week, I chatted with what sounded like a promising job candidate for a hypothetical role.

Within seconds, it generated a well-written cover letter than was better and more tailored to the specific role than plenty of cover letters I’ve received from actual candidates over the years. Where ChatGPT faltered in the interview was when I pressed it for specifics, such as tangible examples of how it overcame a challenge.However, when I asked ChatGPT to write a 150-word anecdote about how a reporter overcame an obstacle, it instantly complied with a reasonable story a candidate could conceivably pass off as prior experience.

AI will obviously continue to get better as time passes, but many of the same hiring best practices that carried the day in the analog era can still be successful in the AI world. 2. The sacrifices of speed in the AI-era
