Citrus farmers are feeling the squeeze of new European Union regulations.

However, the Citrus Growers Association says 99% of oranges entering the EU are pest-free.The EU requires all oranges shipped to the continent be precooled to below 2 degrees Celsius.Due to power cuts, the industry says they will have to invest around R1.4 billion to comply.

Even then, growers will not be ready to meet the regulations by the start of the season and R500 million worth of exports are at stake.

King Charles only wants gold from SA....

Sell to locals! Don't be held hostage by the EU. Look at Russian and Chinese markets. At least with Russia the whole temp is not going to be an issue. Russia is at war so they more happy to buy from SA for fresh fruits.

Finally locals will eat fresh fruit.

But according to the big talkers in South Africa ' we don't need Europe ' lol .....why then even complain ......you've got Russia.....send them a fruit !
