Our podcast on science and technology. This week, we look at the ways private companies are trying to create nuclear fusion and how far it is from potentially transforming energy production on Earth

. And contrary to the old joke that fusion power is thirty years away, and always will be, some of them think they can get there in a decade.

Fernanda Rimini, an experimental fusion scientist with the UK Atomic Energy Authority, explains how nuclear fusion works. Geoff Carr,’s science and technology editor, explores why fusion is coming back into fashion for private companies. Geoff also speaks to Bob Mumgaard of Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Warrick Matthews of Tokamak Energy and Nick Hawker of First Light Fusion.

Don't blow the world up trying to be a trillionire

Fusion, the energy of the future. That would be a real miracle.😉

Please keep Fauci away from this.

Fusion, l'énergie du futur. Ce serait un vrai miracle.😉

Nuclear Fusion is clearly a reality in Light of the Sun... our local Nuclear Power Station Star... IT is the Gift that Keeps on Giving 24/7, at a fit, safe distance from Earth. Nuclear Power produces Electromagnetic Energy as does the Sun 24/7. Pocohrs

DrPippaM The Economist. Fascist Head cases that understand nothing. Nuclear is a very complicated & expensive way to…boil water.

Great blog episode! It brightened my morning commute no end.👍

I'm old enough to remember that fusion is 'only 10 years away', 50 YEARS ago already!

Wrong. Nuclear energy creates deadly toxic pollution that lasts for decades. We need 100% renewable energy if the earth and humans are to have a future

Hopefully Not Another Fukushima Disaster

Wow

As long as we can see, nuclear fusion is expensive and dangering.

As everyone under 50 knows Nukes ain’t it

Greenwashing at its finest Nuclear is neither clean nor green And for obvious geopolitical reasons a dangerous potentially catastrophic mass casualty scheme to wean ourselves off the carbon/PetroChemical teet Do better 🇬🇧💷
