Targeted companies would have 90 days to comply.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted are discussing an act aimed at forcing social media companies to get verifiable parental consent for children under age 16.

During a news conference Monday, DeWine and Husted were joined by the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to talk about the act and other mental health priorities included in the state budget.

"They can set the filters, and they can limit the amount of time children can see their social media and moderate the type of content they want them to see," Lt. Governor Husted said. " is leading to the deaths of young people," Husted said Monday. "It's designed to be addictive so that your children spend time on receiving information that can be dangerous."WSYX asked Husted how the legislation would prevent kids from lying about their age on the platforms to avoid getting parental consent.
