A total of 1002 drones were laid out on the ground at around 9 a.m. Monday, and a team of 40 people were responsible for ensuring their execution and clean-up.

“Each drone has a mission,” Boss added. “It knows where it’s supposed to be in 3-D space, what color it’s supposed to be, and what time.”In order to break the record, the sentence had to be displayed in the air for at least 60 seconds, and Monday’s night display lasted for 62 seconds. A Guinness World Record representative witnessed the event and presented the drone team with the world-record certificate.

Sky Elements Drones launched in North Texas more than three years ago when Boss and his co-founders, who were formerly a part of the pyrotechnic industry, saw an emerging market for drone shows and drone technology. “We quickly realized it was a whole different medium and a whole different process,” Boss said. “We just loved it, and we started playing with it. And then it started growing quickly.”

The company’s drone technology is now used in shows across the country. This Fourth of July weekend alone, Sky Elements held more than 40 aerial shows, Boss said. “Just to set the record was awesome,” he said. “We love fireworks and love celebrating Independence Day, and to be able to do it with drones … it’s just so much fun.”
