U.S. stocks opened higher Thursday as investors assessed the latest jobless claims report and Treasury yields fell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.93% was up 0.6% soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 SPX, +1.20% gained 0.9% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +1.29% climbed 1.

3%, according to FactSet data, at last check. The Department of Labor said Thursday that initial jobless claims rose 5,000 to 217,000 in the week ending Oct. 28.
