Mr Chalmers confirmed he was giving the green light to the merger in a statement on Friday, saying the decision came after"careful consideration, much deliberation and consultation, and a long and thorough process".
Mr Chalmers said it would not be in the national interest to block the deal, but stressed the merger was subject to strict and"enforceable conditions". There can also be no changes to the total number of Suncorp Bank branches in Queensland for the same timeframe.
