CHINA - Online marketplace Temu has been accused of being a "data-theft business" that sells goods as "a means to an end" in a recent lawsuit.against China-based Temu, accusing the company of selling items at ultra-low prices in an alleged exchange for sensitive personal information from its customers. The attorney general claims that app quietly gathers personal data from several apps on the devices of its customers.

The lawsuit alleges that consumers who haven't signed up for Temu are just as at risk of having their private information collected as those who do. According to The Street, citing the lawsuit, people who "engage in electronic communications" with Temu users via text or email can allegedly have their private conversations "subject to harvesting."
