The pretty market town of Petworth in West Sussex has been named one of Europe's most underrated towns - and it's just a three-hour drive from Nottingham

Petworth in West Sussex has been named as one of Europe's hidden gems, earning itself a place on a list of underrated towns. Petworth is just a three-hour trip from Nottingham and is a tranquil oasis within the breathtaking South Downs National Park.

Visitors and locals alike are drawn to Petworth for its peaceful retreat from urban intensity, offering an idyllic weekend getaway, reports the Express. Nicola Butler, owner of travel company NoteWorthy, shared her views on Petworth: "Whilst a perfectly preserved English market town nestled in the heart of the South Downs National Park, Petworth was always just known as a collection of antique stores.

Petworth not only charms with its picturesque scenery, but it is also home to the grandiose Petworth House. Managed by the National Trust, this distinguished house competes with eminent Baroque palaces throughout Europe and carries with it a rich tapestry of history spanning over nine centuries. Amongst the cobblestone paths, Petworth Antiques Market, Thakeham Antiques, and Tudor Rose Antiques stand as the pinnacle spots for antiquing. The allure of this tranquil spot has been climbing, earning it a position on The Sunday Times' Best Places to Live list in 2020, where it was described as "classy and effortlessly upmarket".
