Authorities lead an unannounced search operation at the St Albans Correctional Centre in one of the cells on 16 September 2024.Money, sharp objects and cellphones were some of the illegal items found and confiscated during a raid at St Albans Correctional Center in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape in the early hours of today.
The unannounced search operation was led by Correctional Services National Commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale.“We are dealing with rings, crime rings here that we are dismantling. That’s why even when we got into the cells, I indicated that I am interested in a particular setting in terms of where they are housed. In most instances, those that are housed in corners are the ones that are controlling everything inside a cell.
