River Severn: £800m investment after discharge concerns

Untreated waste going into the River Severn is to be tackled with an £800m investment, Severn Trent Water says.

According to Environment Agency data, untreated waste was discharged into the river 81 times during 2023.joining forces to highlight the importance of clean waterThe firm said it was reducing its impact "quickly" and remained committed to helping to improve the health of rivers. I'm worried that some of the bigger species won't be here within five years."

"All of our spill data is shared with the Environment Agency and we continue to be completely open and transparent while continuing to reduce spills and improve river health," a spokesperson said.
