The Glazer family are reportedly considering investing in The Hundred, but sports promoter Barry Hearn doesn't believe it would be a prudent use of their money

Manchester United's majority owners are understood to be part of a plan that would see shares of The Hundred product sold off for around £650million. This sum represents the total value of the 49% stakes believed to be available in each of the eight teams competing.

The Hundred was first launched in the summer of 2021 when there was a global appetite for new sport following the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite an initially positive response, however, it seems fans have returned to more traditional formats in recent years. "I love cricket. I love cricket and wanted to get involved years ago, but then I met with the authorities and put my plans together. I was horrified by how little support I got," he added. "They'd just close the doors if they could get away with it. Now, they've got it nice. They've got their expenses, their first-class fares... it's just not the same."
