The Democratic Alliance says Justice Minister Thembi Simelane should do the right thing and step down from her position, over her alleged involvement with VBS Mutual Bank.
DA says it has submitted a Promotion of Access to Information Act application for Simelane’s VBS loan report to President Cyril Ramaphosa. Member of Parliament and DA Spokesperson on Justice and Constitutional Development, Advocate Glynnis Breytenbach says it’s concerning that a Minister of Justice, accused of corruption, can continue to oversee the Justice system, and more importantly the National Prosecuting Authority, the very body tasked with investigating her.
Breytenbach adds that the President does not take this matter seriously even though it broke out three months ago. “Documents have been made available and are questionable. She managed to sit on the panicle of the criminal justice system as the head of the justice system, it’s certainly in our view that if she would do the right thing she would step aside on her own. The minister in my view the honorable thing to do would have been to inform the president when he appointed her that she has this involvement, and it could become public.
