Geopolitics is hampering the growth of the country's semiconductor industry, according to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.  “We have all kinds of issues when it comes to digital space, when it comes to planning our semiconductor industry. They are new and we’re trying to wrestle with how to deal with them.

“We have all kinds of issues when it comes to digital space, when it comes to planning our semiconductor industry. They are new and we’re trying to wrestle with how to deal with them. Unfortunately, geopolitics have become more important,” the chief executive said during the courtesy call of members of the United States Semiconductor Association contingent led by its President and CEO John Neuffe in Malacañang last Monday.

China retaliated by banning the exports of critical minerals such as gallium and germanium to the US. Despite the set-backs from the said development, Marcos hopes the country will still benefit from the semiconductor market of the US by developing the local manufacturers of the crucial product.
