Landscaping Business Impacted by Hit-and-Run

A Fairhope man says his landscaping business is suffering after a hit-and-run accident left the trailer he uses to haul equipment unusable. The incident caught on camera shows the moment a dark-colored SUV smacked into the trailer before driving away. The trailer owner, Ben James, is still searching for the driver of the vehicle. James says he worked until dark last Friday evening and decided to keep his equipment loaded onto his trailer before going to sleep.

What he discovered the next morning was a popped tire, detached axle, and a busted fender. 'There was an older couple walking their dog, and they told me they heard a loud boom at like 2:30 in the morning. Then I started to figure out that somebody had crashed into it,' he said. James says after watching surveillance footage, he discovered a driver had hit his trailer. Now, his landscaping business is being impacted due to the fact he cannot use the trailer. 'I am just thankful no one is hurt or anything like that. ' It definitely has hurt me just with business, because I have been able to really do what I do,' he said. 'This has really slowed me down. I have some jobs that I need to be doing as we speak, and without my trailer, I cannot get much of anything done, so I have to get it fixed. And you know, it costs me money every day that goes by. So, it is just tough, but I will not act like it is the end of the world at all, because I know there are some people in much tougher situations. So, I am just blessed to be alive and well, and all is good. It really is. I just got to have my trailer,' he said. James says he is not mad at the driver, but he needs his trailer for work. While he does not know when the trailer might be fixed or how much the repairs will cost, he is asking the driver to reach out. 'If you remember doing it, I would love to just talk with you about it. Maybe we can reach a resolution. If not, I hope you are okay. I hope your car is okay. I really do. You hit it pretty hard'
