The Mayor of Oswestry has resigned from Shropshire Council, citing the daytime scheduling of council meetings as incompatible with his full-time teaching job. He expressed hope for future changes in meeting times to accommodate working individuals. He endorsed Councillor Olly Rose as his successor.

The mayor of a market town has been forced to quit his position as a councillor on Shropshire Council, as he says it is "impossible" to go to council meetings because he works full time. The councillor recently qualified as a full-time teacher, but he has said as council meetings are held during the day when he is at work, it was"impossible" to do both.

"I had hoped to be able to continue to serve on both Shropshire Council and Oswestry Town Council until the elections in May. "I hope this will change in the future. The good news is that Councillor Olly Rose, the former Mayor of Oswestry who joined the council with me in 2017, will be standing to represent the residents of my ward at the elections on May 1 and I am delighted to be able to endorse her.
