Toyota Rules Out Merger with Nissan Amidst Industry Consolidation

As the automotive industry faces an uncertain future, consolidation among major players is expected. While Nissan has sought a merger partner, its historical rival Toyota was never a consideration. Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda addressed the consolidation trends affecting Honda and Nissan at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, confirming that Toyota was not involved in merger discussions. Toyoda stated that even if Nissan had approached Toyota, anti-monopoly laws likely would have prevented such a union.

Instead, Nissan and Honda are set to begin merger talks this year, aiming for a combined entity by late summer 2026.
