Chip and Joanna Gaines of ‘Fixer Upper’ fame say you only need to know ‘40%-60%’ of the information before making a decision — and that includes launching a company

, "Fixer Upper," that supercharged their reach and made the Gaineses, and their shiplap aesthetic, into a household fixture.

Chip referenced the decision by Spanish explorer Hernán Cortés, who ordered his men to burn their ships when they landed in Central America as a helpful, albeit hyperbolic, example of the kind of stick-to-it-ness that he credits their success to. Chip added that, instead of being intimidated by the scope of an issue like racial injustice, he and Joanna focus on solving bite-sized problems that are within their power to change.

Even if the brands align and the money makes sense, if the human connection is missing, the duo passes on the opportunity.
