Embracing negative feelings can help you move forward, says brentgleeson

During his fifth week of the year-long program, Gleeson found himself alongside 200 recruits who were going through physical training that involved running multiple marathons and swimming dozens of miles in the frigid ocean. They were under constant stress, while also being hypothermic and restless, he said.

"The commanding officer told us to get used to this feeling that we had because this is what it'll be like," Gleeson said. "He wouldn't be the last brother we'd lose." In 2018, he authored "TakingPoint," which breaks down a series of principles on how to lead through change in the workplace. Gleeson's most recent book, "Embracing the reality of pain can help you start to cope with it

Setting up a new routine or taking small steps each day to accept your pain can help you push through, he added.
