"It's such a fascinating world," Ms Edwards said.

Deanne Edwards said she had experienced the impact of a lack of embalmers in South Australia firsthand. “There is not a shortage of people interested in wanting to do the course … we would have two or three enquiries a week," Mr Warren said. He said some students may be required to complete up to 50 embalmed bodies with their mentor before they are allowed to work by themselves.

It’s an outdated practice to preserve the bodies of whose who died during WWI so the bodies wouldn’t start decomposing before their burial in their home countries. There is a great book called “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” by Caitlin Doughty a mortician herself that explains.
