Many women have yet to return to the labor market, leading to a smaller pool of labor and driving the unemployment rate lower

Many workers displaced by last year’s pandemic, especially women, have yet to return to the labor market, acting as a check against stronger job growth.

And some women who did return haven’t been able to stay in the job as the Delta variant of Covid-19 raised fears and scrambled child-care plans. In September, women lost 26,000 payroll jobs.
