Amazon's spokesperson didn't respond to a request for comment. In a previous statement to Insider, Amazon defended its response, saying the company acted as quickly as it could to get employees to shelter inside the building by following federal tornado safety guidelines.
In his message, Clark encouraged Amazon employees to make donations to support those affected by the tornado. He also said there would be a private vigil in remembrance of those who died on Friday. The vigil, however, was canceled due to inclement weather.I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of support for our team and the entire community in Edwardsville, Illinois, as they continue to recover from the devastating tornado that struck on Friday night.
Our focus right now is supporting our employees and partners, the families who lost loved ones, the surrounding community, and all those affected by the storms. That includes donating $1 million to the Edwardsville Community Foundation, providing relief supplies and services, food, and more. We are also establishing a relief fund for employees and partners affected by the path of these storms, which hit several U.S. states over the weekend — more to come on that soon.
I know that this is an incredibly difficult time for so many, and we will continue working hard to support our team and their families, as well as the first responders who provided so much support during this tragedy. Thank you to everyone who is already involved, and in classic Amazonian style, people are reaching out from around the company to ask how they can help, so I have included a link below to information about organizations that would welcome your support.
