A once in a generation defence plan will see the government rapidly expand a domestic long-range weapons industry as well as bolster Australia’s deterrence efforts against regional threats.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Defence Minister Richard Marles will release a declassified version of the report and the government’s response on Monday which is expected to include a massive shift in focus to force projection.

The number of infantry fighting vehicles to be acquired will drop from 450 to 129 with the review expected to recommend significant cuts of defence projects to fund the AUKUS project and an expansion of other capabilities.

The de-classified version has reportedly redacted mentions of “plausible” military scenarios which likely reference China.
