Understanding Composability
The most important part of a composable model is the protocol that the software relies on. Every system will have its own ‘business object taxonomy’: a data dictionary that provides a standard definition for certain objects in the system, such as customers and suppliers. This dictionary will include a description of each object’s individual attributes, as well as its relationships to, and dependencies on, other objects.
A messaging system provides a standard way to send and receive information in an agreed format. It can, for example, notify a supplier portal application whenever updates have been made to suppliers elsewhere on the system and vice versa. In this way, the entire ecosystem can be kept up to date, in near real time. Any changes are applied automatically, preventing time-consuming service outages.
