Former UOB chairman and CEO Wee Cho Yaw was a 'titan of Singapore's banking industry', said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Sunday (Feb 4) as he led the tributes to the late businessman. Singapore bank UOB announced on Saturday that Wee Cho Yaw passed away at the age of 91. He had helmed the bank for more than 60 years before retiring from the board in 2018.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong praised Wee Cho Yaw's business acumen and visionary leadership, stating that he played a crucial role in growing UOB into one of the most successful banks in Singapore and the region. The Prime Minister also expressed his personal connection with Wee Cho Yaw, having worked closely with him during his tenure as chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)
