'I cannot remember a more heart-wrenching time in my career with this great company,' Boeing chief executive Dennis Muilenburg said Thursday in a public letter following the release of a crash investigation report into an Ethiopian Airlines accident that killed 157 people on March 10.

By Aaron Gregg Aaron Gregg Reporter covering the defense industry and government contractors. Email Bio Follow April 4 at 4:35 PM Boeing chief executive Dennis Muilenburg apologized Thursday for the 346 lives lost in crashes of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in Indonesia and Ethiopia, according to a letter made public on the company’s website.

His comments followed the release of the preliminary report about the March 10 Ethiopian Airlines crash that killed everyone on the flight. Ethiopia’s transport minister said the crew had “performed all the procedures, repeatedly, provided by the manufacturer but was not able to control the aircraft.”“We at Boeing are sorry for the lives lost in the recent 737 MAX accidents,” Muilenburg wrote.

“The history of our industry shows most accidents are caused by a chain of events. This again is the case here, and we know we can break one of those chain links in these two accidents,” Muilenburg wrote, also noting that pilots have raised concerns over the potential for the flight system to create new risks in “what is already a high workload environment.”

“We’re taking a comprehensive, disciplined approach, and taking the time to get the software update right," Muilenburg said. “We’re nearing completion and anticipate its certification and implementation on the 737 MAX fleet worldwide in the weeks ahead."

Absurd that you believe that an apology is acceptable for the loss of over 200 lives! People who had more living to do. All because you wanted to make more $ by making the required software optional. You Bozo!

Les pannes se sont multipliées ces derniers temps

you should apologize for your pervious false and stupid reports

Bit late!

Fahrenthold Jail time please.

rhonda_harbison So when will the people who made the decision - for which he apologizing - be fired? I've seen people fired for a lot less then decisions that led to a passenger jet crashing....

I gave Boeing the benefit of the doubt at first because I thought the implications were to incredulous. I was a sucker. The criminal negligence is disgusting. People need to go to prison...in Ethiopia.

Scrap these planes

He knew this was a problem and willingly ignored it, where is the accountability?

Why apologize for profits first?

Fahrenthold I hope the settlements to all those who lost loved ones put them out of business.

Resigning is your only option here, Dennis.

Now isn't he the same asshole who was trying to sweep this under the rug? He had to be ordered to ground the planes.

were is the jail time? Rushed the design and production to prevent Airbus from encroaching on their monopoly over American Airlines

Fahrenthold Apology accepted. Now, pack a bag and march yourself to the nearest jail. You need to do some hard time for all the lives you wrecked.

Apologizes from his $30 million yacht in the Caribbean

Traslate: I´am sorry, but business are business

Fahrenthold Boeing is fooked.

Resign.

and the Boing CEO thinks that’s it?

maddezmom

Fahrenthold Money rules these people. they are criminals and perpetrators of death. There is no punishment too grave for them. And for anyone in any department that aided and abetted this tragedy - including the FAA and Trump.

Fahrenthold Christ! Really? Daaaaaaaaamn... bold move... only matters though if they didn’t know about the problem OR didn’t pressure FAA (through political connections) to speed up signing off on plane... but partial credit

RIP Boeing

Fahrenthold free floormats for now on Boeing

Oh well then. We’re all good. Let’s get those planes back in the air! Joke.

Fahrenthold It’s a start. Now about our governments role?

Can’t imagine how the Boeing Englan meets and software developers who built this are feeling just now. Also begs questions as to whether corners were cut, was testing insufficient etc.?

Sue them and the FAA into genuine regret.

Sad reality!

Trump’s BFF killed how many ppl to make a few extra dollars?

Apologizes?! What did he said? Note taken? Who's responsible for death of all those people should be in jail :)

First order aerodynamic instabilities can't be solved with third order software modifications.
