United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over violence in Kenya following the anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations witnessed in various parts of the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, Guterres appealed to the Kenya government to exercise restraint when dealing with anti-Finance Bill protesters.

"I am deeply saddened by the reports of deaths and injuries - including of journalists and medical personnel - connected to protests and street demonstrations in Kenya," Guterres said. "The Chairperson reiterates the total solidarity of the African Union with the Government and People of Kenya and exhorts them to maintain peace, security and stability in the country," said Faki.The protesters mainly youths stormed the streets to demand the rejection of the Finance Bill, 2024.
