The Commission says women ought to be at the forefront of initiatives to tackle climate change.

The South African Human Rights Commission has encouraged young women to fight poverty and make a meaningful contribution to food security amid climate change challenges worldwide.

The commission hosted a discussion with female learners from different schools in the Eastern Cape on the impact of climate change on young women and the opportunities that come with it. Zukiswa Mqhakanya from the Human Rights Commission urged women to be at the forefront of initiatives aimed at reducing the effects of climate change.

“Women need to be at the forefront … and take up space.
