Manchester may have its famously vast Christmas Markets back with even more stalls spread across the city for 2024. But it's got plenty of competition with seemingly every big city now offering its own festive wooden hut extravaganza.
Chester was only pipped to the post in the study by Bath, but it "scored higher for its ease of getting around, parking and lack of crowds". Chester being a particularly historic city means you also have a patchwork of black and white buildings either side, and it sits opposite the grand Chester Cathedral. The market is nestled at the end of one of the main shopping streets, so you can easily combine it with a full day out, walking the historic Rows and cobbled streets of the city.
