Water,Water Crisis

The company has the goal to halve the amount of water lost through its pipeline network by 2045, and drones could help in achieving it.

Severn Trent anticipates this technology will be very beneficial in achieving its target of reducing leakages by 15 percent by 2025.According to the company, the new technology – called Drones In a Box – can help it spot leakages from miles away using remote-controlled unmanned aerial vehicles that can fly beyond line of sight.

It also uses them to survey sites like reservoirs and treatment works, saving cash on scaffolding and manpower. However, once there is a change, the company can deploy remotely operated drones that can track faults and leakages by flying miles away from the controller. This could go a long way in preventing wastage and would contribute to fighting the water crisis. The Drones in a Box is a rather clever concept that relies on putting the UAVs inside a docking station. This allows the operators to fly the drones to distant locations.
