So.. allowing people to have extra benefits all because of others personal habits? This seems unfair and stupid. You're only gonna piss all your smoking employees off and then they will resent you. This isn't encouraging people to quit, its making them less than everyone else.

What about fire If people pop out when they feel like it , they have to have some way of monitoring staff location - so clock card or signing in/out or signing in /out as if there’s a fire the roll call could indicate someone missing risking their life or the life of rescuers

Sounds in theory like an argument to encourage giving up smoking. However it's fraught with discriminatory implications. How about employees who don't exercise or who are overweight or arrive at work with hangovers? Effectively moralising and masking the reasons.
what about fatties taking time to snack at their desks? do skinny people get extra hols? oh I remember. you cant fat shame but you can smoke shame🤨. and what about religions that take time out to pray?
bbcnews smoker shaming again. What of a smoker doesn't go for breaks between official breaks? My employer allows me 1hr lunch and 2 15min breaks per day. I don't smoke outwith those times. Would I get extra holidays under this scheme? If not, its discrimination.

Most certainly discrimination. Unless smokers are given extra break times, those times are logged and matched to non smokers. If not it's discrimination, pure and simple. What about praying, is that ok though? Yeah probs.

Have worked with smokers for 30 odd years and none of them have ever had more breaks than me at any time. So it's either lazy bosses or lazy workers.
I think to move to Swindon as in London is better we smoke more to die earlier as its overcrouded. We can cross the road on red light too.

How would they know if indeed they are truly non smokers...people can lie on sheet just to secure a job but in reality they are smokers..this decision is unfair

Great idea in nearly every car home I worked in smokers would have far more breaks than anyone else. Made even worse on nightshift when they would just disappear

Smokers don't need reward to quit smoking but they need something which is more intimate than smoking.
I gave up using Nicotine chewing gum , 19 months now , it is sad that people smoke. Waste of money and debilitating disease. Emphysema doesn't kill you quick , you hang on maybe 15 years unable to breath. Any task becomes impossible. Luckily I haven't got any illness at all.

Used to work in a place with a load of smokers, anytime someone went for a smoke break when they got back I would get up and go get a cup of tea. Fair is fair. I have a tea addiction.

Well as an ex smoker I only had the same time for breaks as anyone else when I smoked everyone has 10 min in the morning and same in afternoon and then lunch break all the same
Don't smokers just smoke on the breaks that they're entitled to in the first place though? I've worked in a few different sorts of businesses of varying size and not once have I encountered a colleague saying ''Right, I know it's half 11 but I fancy a cig so I'm downing tools'.
