In fact, CEO Mark Zuckerberg the New York Times that messaging is among the "three fastest-growing areas of online communication," along with stories and groups. And, while Facebook has mostly spoken of interoperability in cross-platform terms, cross-device integration is also key.

Even if users don't flock to the feature en masse, specific groups could benefit from the more streamlined experience, like marketers and other professionals who use Instagram for work. Adding DMs to Instagram's web platform reduces friction for users and professionals alike.
