The head of the Canadian Airports Council says airports are poised to lose $1.3 billion due to COVID-19.

Last Updated Tuesday, March 17, 2020 1:11PM EDTOTTAWA -- Canadian airports are poised to lose $1.3 billion amid an ongoing global travel collapse triggered by COVID-19, says group representing the country's airports.

Gooch said support could come as a rent deferral or reduction, that would help offset fixed costs such as runway maintenance. The Canadian Airports Council represents 53 airports, including the country's three largest that account for the bulk of federal airport rent. On Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Canada will close its borders to most foreign nationals except Americans and bar anyone, including Canadian citizens, with symptoms of the illness from boarding flights to this country.

Airport and canada border agency did a very poor job in advising people who arrived from abroad and US to self monitor and to self isolate. The government put measures in place, but airport did not implement it properly.

To many of the “1%” profit off airlines. So I could care less. I hope a high percent of the people profiting from the airlines get a taste of the hardships some regular everyday folk go thru. 👋

10% of your paycheque should go towards an emergency fund...

Ohwell, now ya know how we feel

my sympathy is elsewhere

If nobody is flying then are really talking about profits?

One way to look at this is “Supply and Demand”. Nobody bails out shops when they fail. Let the airports figure this one out.

So much For Prime Minister Capt. Compost keeping his word about containing COVID -19 & allowing flights from China in to the country, I'm very sure China virus screening is way above ours, lmao! Why would they care their getting rid of potential carriers!

I hear Air Canada is price gouging Canadians trying to get home, charging huge one-way ticket prices.

They're probably going to do fine after this whole thing is over. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they got a bailout. I'm more concerned about the small stores that might end up going out of business.

Given we have been getting ripped off by the travel industry for decades I guess we will call it even.

Good! They rip us off anyway!
