You shouldn't automatically drop your student credit card just because you graduated

After you transfer the balance, monitor your spending and make sure you pay off the balance before the special offer expires. If you don't, you could be charged interest for the entire original balance, even if you only have $50 left.

Avoid using this card for new purchases, since those may not come with the 0% offer. You should also figure out why you ran up a balance in college. Was it because you had a real emergency like a problem with your car or did you end up ordering too many meals from Postmates? Understanding the reason for your overspending is key so you don't make the same mistakes in the future.

If you still want to get a regular credit card for the rewards, you can ask the card issuer to give you a smaller limit.you need to have in order to be approved. If your credit score isn't higher than 600, you may struggle to find a card better than your student one. Until your score is above 600, you should think twice about applying for a new card. The hard inquiries you get from new applications will further ding your credit score in the short term. Check your credit score once a month to see how your credit has improved. You should almost always keep your student card open
