'The idea that my appearance pushed the market down an additional 4% that day is absurd,' Ackman told investors on Thursday.

At that time, Ackman warned that hotel-operator Hilton Worldwide was "going to zero ... along with every other hotel company in the world," said thatand cautioned U.S. companies to stop their stock buyback programs because "hell is coming."

Ackman explained on March 3 that he'd purchased the default swaps as hedges against the market if efforts to contain the novel coronavirus had a "substantial negative impact on the U.S. and global economies" as he thought likely. But some argued that his appearance on CNBC on March 18 was intended to sew further fear and increase the value of the swaps.

But Ackman reiterated that he had said in the interview on March 18 that he had already started adding to Pershing's existing stock holdings since equitieslooked cheap amid the historic market sell-off.

Congress should pass a 100% tax on all stock and option gains over the last several weeks. No one should be allowed to make one penny on this situation. All hands on deck to solve this problem. Not profit from it.

Ackman, Bloomberg, and other billionaires who shorted the market should be investigated for market manipulation, tried, prosecuted, and have all of their assets ceased.

Creep. Since when are you a doctor? You should be barred

Absurd for his behavior and Cnbc allowing Scott Wapner to stoke the flames 🔥 of panic with that interview. Scare tactics hurt people.

It was so blatantly obvious that it was almost funny.

Why buy Hilton if it is going to zero?

Everyone pls calm down. He only made $2.5 billion panicking the market and shorting it. Chicken feed for a hedge fund guy.

He did

Again, you are to blame CNBC. This was just as bad as yelling fire 🔥 in a crowded place. CNBC, you don’t have to be first at reporting, just be accurate and accountable.

What else would he say? That was the worst interview I’ve heard on CNBC. I didn’t think Walt Disney’s daughter’s interview could be beat for that title. But Ackman did it.

🤔

Funny that word is he was covering his shorts in IG33/34 and HY33/34 while he was polluting the world on CNBC. Sadder is the fact the CNBC will give a microphone to any $2 whore.

Bills gonna look good in stripes BillAckman ScottWapnerCNBC should be tossed for allowing the interview

I thought so too.

BillAckman your a smart guy and the real issue was the optics. U shouldn’t have done the interview. It appears based on BeckyQuick overview this morning u did want any capitalist would do but u really shouldn’t have done the interview. Just say that and move on.

Classic article -- all quotes by him. It's just a total joke. This is why the little investor hates the market.

You guys have been putting these types on for years and they have been getting away with it. They should be investigated.

Yeah right so he is just an idiot then.

CNBC should apologize for giving Bill Ackman air time during a crisis. Complete Garbage.

Cries the world is ending and tanks the market and a few days later makes 2.6 bil. What POS.

Took long enough.

Pump and dump! He knew he was making $$$ with every word. That said, it doesn’t necessarily mean his words were incorrect ... just a bit self serving.

Total a-hole

“Did you say Hilton is going to zero?”

BULLSHT

You should bar him from your programs, to use your platform and brand for his personal gains. Period. I believe in capitalism but not in frauding. He could have as easily come back to talk about this sentiments changing.

Thats exactly what he did.

Ackman is manipulating the market to try and get back some of those losses from a couple years ago. SEC should investigate!

A crafty chap, the tears were very good, should be in Hollywood

No doubt whatever he says is in his own self interest.....a shark that is not needed in the pool.

This guy scum...

If you believe that, then you must also believe in the tooth fairy.

😉

BS!!

Of course he thinks that. He is going to jail.

Well, given his past, are not absurd at all.

Novel idea for - stop giving this guy a platform.

The money he made was “absurd”

Oh look a video of Bill Ackman yelling fire and then trying to explain it all away:

All is going to hell!!!!!! I buy. Well... very 'absurd' right? Now say u sold everything yesterday

Lock him up

He’s a loser fearmonger short

BillAckman should be censured by for a maximum period of time his interview rant was dangerous disingenuous w no pushback from CNBC reporter

Agree. He was aggressively talking down the market and they didn’t call him on it or press him on his motive. It stinks!

Yet scump can target an industry or individual with a planned tweet attack. He then can short the market thru various international Russian accounts & banks. Y'all know he's doing that 100% no doubt. Because this system is 100% rigged for white collar crime.

People do this all the time. When he said he “dreamed” about Coronavirus I knew he had a bet in play.

Of course he does, as he counts his money! He doesn’t give two shits what anyone thinks! Carma baby! CARMA

Correct! The accusations were completely absurd.

How many times do we have to suffer from the stock markets? How many depressions, recessions & 'financial crisis' that the best most educated licensed minds can manage? Just to go straight into the ground? Obviously it's a casino & completely irresponsible. It needs to go.

He did though. He had a short position on during that interview

Sure, sure

He should be banned from US market and shown the southern door!

CNBC should be ashamed...but they do have Jim Cramer on daily so why is anyone surprised?

Live picture of BillAckman

Absurd?! He is absurd. He should be in jail...

He and his firm should be investigated by the SEC

Of course that’s what he says!

This guy broke the law. I cannot believe he can get away with market manipulation like this!

whats absurd is CNBC gives him a platform.

One of the more enpassioned, honest debates and exchanges I have ever witnessed on CNBC or any other media, among hosts

All large short sellers need to be investigated. Suspend short selling.

You need to be investigated You did something wrong Shame n you

It was the first thing that came to mind when he announced he came up 10,000%

BS! SEC need to investigate immediately. The content and timing of the interview were interesting.. WSJ USATODAY coronavirus_USA SEC ABC CNN

Is he a Democrat?

Can we all finally agree what a POS BillAckman is? Please?

He’s right. BillAckman didn’t need to drive down the market. It’s doing a great job crashing all in its own, but much faster than at any other time in history. Only regret is not holding on to short positions long enough. Plenty of wealth and brainwashing left to wipe out

Bill you’re in good company CNBC let Dan Nile sell his Doomsday trade👎 Cooperman gave a great balanced interview 👍

Let the SEC decide what a scumbag. Should be sued!!!

That interview was absurd!!!! He should be investigated by SEC

Ok Valeant Pharma

And CNBC is complicit. To delay your commercials so that he could continue crying on TV.. criminal. Where were the disclaimers that his options positions made him net short?

It’s not like he doesn’t have a track record of this practice with individual equities.

National pastime now seems to be lying. Total BS, just look at his actions. I do hope none of my related entities (endowments, pensions, etc.) are invested with this crook.

No, billy boy, they're QUITE ACCURATE. You should BE CHARGED BY THE SEC AND DOJ

Pretty obvious dude. Crying. End of world scenarios. Come on. Either that or you have a serious mental condition.

This should be investigated

Not absurd. It was a horrible interview

Ackman uses the media to advance his company’s investment strategies. CNBC should ban him from future any interviews.

he was panicked.

Criminal what he did. A lot of middle class are being negatively affected and he’s on TV creating as much fear as he can. Sad there are people like that out there.

That guy is a snake

I am disturbed he can be provided and unedited public platform to create uncertainty, even on specific companies then profit from it. This is just WRONG.

I mean he did make 2 billion and sold shortly after his interview and tweets. 🤷‍♂️

Why are you giving this weasel plarform? Grow some standard CNBC.
