Conditions pertaining to health and safety must be fulfilled and a risk assessment of the workplace conducted before a business can reopen, Cosatu says

Cosatu wants workers and unions to have a say on whether a business can reopen when the hard Covid-19 lockdown ends on April 30, following a risk assessment and a signed agreement by stakeholders.

“This must be negotiated with and agreed to by workers and unions in workplaces. Any sector or workplace must have a signed health and safety agreement,” he said. The lockdown regulations have had a huge impact on the economy as key sectors temporarily shut their doors as the country battled to flatten the curve of Covid-19, which has infected 3,953 and killed 75 in SA.

When SA moves from level 5 to level 4 on May 1, some businesses will be allowed to resume operations but under specific conditions, the president said.

Have a say and How.. We as workers don't have that authoritative powers to do that. When I says something my employer fires me then what, Whose going to employ me, you Cosatu

I agree with the safety measures but that is a logical necessity. The unions are clueless, let's see how many companies are going to stay closed permanently. You the union are of no help to the situation our country faces or to the people who have been blindly paying money to you

If government with all the billions failed to test most of the ppl Why now the companies must make sure the testing is done?

Few organizations have so seriously reached its 'sell-by date' than _cosatu. They should learn to respect President Ramaphosa's research-based calls in this regard! SowetanLIVE Eusebius PresidencyZA Our_DA EFFSouthAfrica

Now Cosatu Wants workers to have a say. Usually Cosaty have all the day and this usually results in a loss of jobs.

What has cosatu done to help the workers since lockdown started

If workers want a say in the running of the business, by all means, but then they don’t need and can’t have a union; they have become the employer.

Why? Government provides the strict guidelines for employers to follow, in order to reopen businesses.

They should also wear masks
