other countries seem to be coping well..why is it so horrendous a thought for the UK ?

You mean airlines. Those huge polluters wanting taxpayer bailouts.

The UK travel industry needs to get over themselves, notice that many countries adopted this policy when they only had a few Covid-19 cases and that aviation has not collapsed in those countries.

The actual nightmare would be the pandemic becoming even worse than it is in the UK.

Maybe just see how other countries have been doing it for the last 2 months. It’s not like it’s peak travel season, is it?

UK travel industry therefore is OK with importing more cases straight out into the community as infectious delivery mechanisms.

If HMG doesn’t exempt EU citizens, they will make reciprocal. Who will go on holiday knowing you face struck quarantine on arrival?!

So glad Canada has a two week quarantine for those who are allowed to cross the border
