KUALA LUMPUR: The calls for the government not to use Social Security Organisation (Socso) funds to cover the costs of Covid-19 tests for foreign workers are uncalled for, says Datuk Seri Ramli Yusuff.

The Security Industry Association of Malaysia president said the nation is already facing a multi-layered crisis with the pandemic."The government sees the need for foreign workers including security guards to be free of the coronavirus. Therefore, mass screening is the way and logistically can be very difficult, especially the cost of screening.Ramli was responding to certain parties who were against using Socso contributions to cover Covid-19 tests for foreign workers.

However, Ramli said that such parties “may not be fully aware of the challenging situation and may misconstrue the objectives of the contribution to Socso made compulsory since January. "Our guards are important frontliners who help society and assist enforcement agencies to keep law and order," Ramli said.

"Due to the increase in the minimum wage of RM1,200 for big cities and the hard times the private security industry are experiencing with the contraction of businesses, security companies are facing tremendous pressure at the moment," Ramli said.

What utter rubbish are these Security companies saying. Why should Socso pay the cost instead of employers. These vultures should be made to the cost of Covid-19 screening and not Socso.
