As many as 25,000 US stores could shut down this year, crippling malls, and obliterating last year's record of more than 9,000 closures

Coresight, which had previously forecasted around 15,000 closings for the year, updated its estimate on Tuesday in light of the "escalating impact of the coronavirus pandemic," it said. Retailers across the US have been reeling from the impact of the pandemic, which has kept many stores closed since mid-March. So far, nearlyas legacy names such as Victoria's Secret, Gap, and JCPenney have been forced to trim their store fleets.
