'The graphic design industry is massive, there’s many subsections of it. One of them is being type design/typography which we noted a few years ago was quite male-dominated in comparison to womxn in those career roles.”

is the inclusive platform championing representation and change – both on and offline. Founded by Amber Weaver as a rebuttal to the male dominated industry she found herelf in,offers support and valuable opportunities to type designers identifying as women in the industry. Whether that be in the form of a feature or commision, Weaver's platform is here to reset the industry - one womxn at a time.

"The graphic design industry is massive, there’s many subsections of it. One of them is being type design/typography which we noted a few years ago was quite male-dominated in comparison to womxn in those career roles," commented Weaver. "Why do I think this is so? Type Design in particular was a male dominated craft many years ago in the age of hot metal press.

But how can we as an industry help in this fight for equality? Weaver has a simple answer: think aboutis behind the work. "Some would argue that it’s about the work and not the person, but I think that’s wrong. It is very much about the person, they are the author of the work. So why should they need to be disconnected from their creation? It just doesn’t make sense to me," she added.

LOVE caught up with the ex-University of Arts London Chelsea student on Femme Type's main goals, what she's most proud of, and how to get involved with the industry-changing platform.
