America's foreign aid is drying up, its moral standing has diminished and its adversaries seem to be on the ascent. Now, with growing dangers to democracy around the globe, some of our nation's most seasoned diplomats are pinning their hopes on boardrooms from New York to New Delhi. The business community has actually been far more responsive to voters' views on issues like gun control, climate change and racism than many politicians.often raises concerns and criticism. Their lobbying and large donations are frequently cited as efforts to unfairly manipulate the process in their favor. Perhaps it's time to rethink some of those reservations.

How about ending the War in Afghanistan

Q. How do you defeat the United States? A. Stand back and watch them defeat themselves.

If it’s up to private business we are fucked

We are in a pandemic! People are suffering!

I wonder who is responsible for that outlook. Oh, hello NPR

you're full of BS it's not shrinking at all it's growing

It is incredibly sad to watch the USA sinking under the corruption of the Trump Republicans. Citizens United was the nail in the coffin of US democracy. Americans are their own worst enemies. 😥

'Moral standing' according to NPR. Laughable.

Trust The Brands™️

LoL. More DumbAssedness from the Seditious Devils at npr. Defund npr. MAGA

Wow, corporations that overpay their boards, CEO and investors and underpay and over work their workers are coming to our rescue. Hurehhh

Weren’t you all the “people over profits” crowd that opposed companies. Corporations have one goal to make profits. That’s it. It is simple but it is known. “Let’s save democracy” said no CEO ever. Nor should they.

This has to be the worst opinion NPR has ever published. Corporations sucking the lifeblood out of democracy's across the world as we speak. Not good for business.

What does that mean? I don't think Dole Industries should be speaking for America in say..Phillippines or Brazil import deals.Or Verizon should be talking to China for us...

Pinning your hopes on companies to shore up democracy is an alarming idea. I don't trust any company whose primary objective is to make money to have the best interests of democracy at heart.

Cuz if elected, the only thing Biden will be shoring up his his family’s cash flow! 🤔

The Chicoms couldn't have written this better.

It’s come to this because Trump and GOP Senators and House Reps can’t be trusted domestically nor internationally. The GOP support lies, blackmail, extortion, and now enemies paying for allied soldier’s deaths. Vote Biden and restore America. senatemajldr GOPLeader GOP

Makes total sense to entrust democracy to the entities that drain the lifeblood of it by not paying taxes and stifling competition through lobbying for protectionist laws.

😂 Companies are a huge part of the reason we are in this Shitler situation They laugh while they take in the $$$ for the wealthy. Not gonna life a pinky

Moral standard shrinking, please define.

Shore up democracy? We aren’t giving countries money so they don’t like us... how does that equate with shoring up democracy?

For the maturation of electoral and governmental democracy to become manifest in the U.S.; the electoral college must be dissolved, followed by the rapid dissolution of the senate, interfaced with the territorial restructuring of the republic itself.

So, Democracy is fucked, is what you're saying? Even Trillion dollar companies don't stand up to totalitarian regimes, if it threatens their profit margin.

BS . Wake up.

Privatization has been going on since 2003

Hmm, that's not democracy then is it?

Our worst advasaries are within our country.

Or we could just shitcan Trump in November and go back to normal, being the leader of the free world.

I love when 'Opinion' piece start with broad statements presentes as fact with no supporting evidence

Wow, nice 'journalism' NPR, totally not neoliberal apologia at all.🖕🏻

Moral standing shrinking? Defund this garbage

So if I understand this right this is an outcry for companies to use their massive wealth to sway the elections in the United States for world government world marketing and a world of wealth for them

We r often gaslighted that we r more respected around the world these days.
