Whether it’s growing, branding, selling, or resort-ing, Mike Tyson has been deep into the weed industry for a while. Now the Tyson-owned licensing and branding company The Ranch has announced a more unconventional means of producing cannabis products: Printing beverages.

Smart Cups is the developer of a proprietary technology that uses a process called micro-encapsulation printing technology to produce beverages. The process allows the active and flavour ingredients to be isolated and printed onto any surface — in this case, a bioplastic cup. This eliminates the necessity for the heavy liquid ingredients that increase the costs and environmental impact of shipping the product. Consumers simply fill the cup with water when they’re ready to drink.

“Dosing has been one of the systematic issues plaguing this industry. Acquiring the science and technology to efficiently deliver consistent and accurate dosages will be a game changer in the cannabis marketplace,” The Ranch Companies CEO Rob Hickman said in a statement. “Chris Kanik and the innovative team at Smart Cups were able to deliver us a solution for a problem that has long needed to be fixed.
