Staggering 2,000 pubs will go out of business by next year under current restrictions, survey finds

Two in three of the 3,500 bars that remain shut say they will be forced to close for good by January under current conditions.Pubs that don’t serve food are still scheduled to reopen on August 31 under the former roadmap.Eight in 10 of the pub bosses surveyed now say they no longer support the Government’s handling of the crisis.

The survey was organised ahead of the Government decision on whether the 3,500 pubs still closed across the country can reopen on Monday 31st August, which the Cabinet is due to discuss in the coming days. “This survey highlights how much the pubs that are still closed feel abandoned by the Government,” said Padraig Cribben, Chief Executive of the VFI.
