Some 64m meals were consumed at 84,000 venues over the first nine days of Britain’s “Eat out to help out” scheme, at a cost of £336m to the exchequer

now when the grandchildren of the covid generation ask, wide-eyed, “What did you do during the great pandemic of 2020?” the wizened elders will pause to reflect on hardships past and they will answer: “I did my bit for the country. I ate a lot of steak-frites.”

Yet the key achievement of the scheme is not that it has driven Britons into pubs and restaurants on discount days, but that it reintroduced Brits to the practice of eating out. The cash incentive was a boost, but the psychological effect was more important. “What people have been saying in surveys is if the chancellor is giving you a discount, it’s the right thing to do,” says Kate Nicholls ofHospitality, an industry body.

Yet the hospitality industry faces a series of challenges starting in September. The first is rent. Most hospitality venues pay rent in advance on a quarterly basis. Many have had their rent reduced or deferred. But many will have to cough up nine months of rent at the end of September. That is likely to cause a wave of bankruptcies in the sector.

Change is a bitch, but still, the only bitch around. And from someone who knows your restaurants since the eighties, improve your food, dear Britain, with some diversity, challenge and culinary skills.

This is why no right thinking person believes your twisted version of the truth. We have left you guys behind. Tell that to those who questions their gender 😂

Governments are sloppy In Europe statistics try to show that eating & going out are safe enough On the other hand Covid-19 numbers keep raising thru the UK. Industries an places alike are the ones where outbreaks happen more Capitalism lies to us in order to keep its own agenda

Support BIAFRA right to freedom

Misleading headline... doesn’t account for losses in tax if there hadn’t been this scheme, both from these meals and in longer term as this encourages people to go out more and generally change behaviour - these behavioural patterns will become routine of weeky outing for some
