OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma to plead guilty to 3 criminal charges as part of an $8 billion-plus settlement

Justice Department officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday that OxyContin-maker Purdue Pharma will plead guilty to three federal criminal charges as part of an $8 billion-plus settlement.

The deal does not release any of the company's executives or owners — members of the wealthy Sackler family — from criminal liability. A criminal investigation is ongoing. As part of the resolution, Purdue will admit that it impeded the Drug Enforcement Administration by falsely representing that it had maintained an effective program to avoid drug diversion and by reporting misleading information to the agency to boost the company's manufacturing quotas, the officials said.

Purdue would transform into a public benefit company, meaning it would be governed by a trust that has to balance the trust's interests against those of the American public and public health, the officials said. The Sacklers would not be involved in the new company and part of the money from the settlement would go to aid in medically assisted treatment and other drug programs to combat the opioid epidemic, the officials said.

"Millions of American families impacted by the opioid epidemic are looking to you and your Department for justice. Justice for the sleepless nights spent worrying about sons and daughters trapped in the grip of substance use disorder, justice for the jobs lost and the lives ruined, and justice for the lives of loved ones lost to overdoses," 38 Democratic members of Congress wrote.

How much jail time? Other than sex crimes and stealing directly from other rich people (Maddoff), rich people don't go to jail. This is a problem. One of the central tenets of criminal justice is deterrent alongside punishment. No punishment, no deterrent = more crime.

LekkiGenocide Nigerians are being killed by the NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT. Help US... The Nigerian Army is killing its citizens

If the Military wants to take over. They can just talk it through NTA . All these Snipers and coordinated attacks are not necessary. Nigeria weeps .. A Government People used sweat and means to put into power turning against them. NEVER WILL AFFLICTION RISE A SECOND TIME

Sure, but we need people going to jail, and hopefully in the same prison where Chapo Guzmán is. Major drug traffickers must face the same punishment.
