GEORGE TOWN: All companies or factories in the professional and manufacturing sectors in Penang have to strictly follow the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the conditional MCO, says Chow Kon Yeow.

Following an increase in Covid-19 cases involving several factories in the state, the Penang Chief Minister said that the state government was emphasising the importance of implementing the SOPs more strictly as outlined by International Trade and Industry Ministry .

“Based on the state Health Department director’s letter to both local authorities previously, all companies and factories are required to set up a taskforce if there are officers and employees infected with Covid-19. “In fact, the management is urged to not allow officers and employees who have a fever and those with symptoms to work and make sure that they seek treatment to ensure the workplace is safe.

“Both local authorities- Penang Island City Council and Seberang Perai City Council are requested to continue monitoring and take firm action against all companies or factories under the professional and manufacturing sectors that do not comply with SOPs.“Never spread information obtained from unauthentic sources that can cause panic among the community, ” he said in a statement on Friday .
