How Google finally decided to remove Parler after months of flagging the app's harmful content

Google said it had been sending reminders to Parler regarding its moderation policies.Visit Business Insider's homepage for more storiespulledGoogle said at the time that the app, which is popular with Trump supporters, lacked sufficient content moderation policies for removing harmful content – a rule that applies to all Play Store apps that contain "user-generated content."

After the riots, concerns were raised by some members of Play Store's "Merchandising" team, which is responsible for how apps are features and promoted on the Play Store. "We recognize that there can be reasonable debate about content policies and that it can be difficult for apps to immediately remove all violative content, but for us to distribute an app through Google Play, we do require that apps implement robust moderation for egregious content," a Google spokesperson told Business Insider.

Wernick said that one Google employee was having technical issues with their video, and says Google then asked to postpone the call to a later date.
