Trump's impeachment trial threatens to derail speedy passage of Biden's stimulus package and set up another unemployment cliff

Trump's impeachment trial begins on February 9, and it's threatening to slow down passage of a relief bill for several weeks."There's an urgency to moving it forward, and [Biden] certainly believes there needs to be progress over the next couple of weeks," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Monday.

"Something like impeachment is an incredibly partisan exercise, it does tend to inflame passions on both sides," Lanhee Chen, a policy fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution,Chen, a former GOP aide, argued it is "really hard" for the Senate to balance impeachment and other legislative business — a move both Biden and Democratic leaders are pushing for.

It has slowed the confirmation process for many of Biden's cabinet nominees, and the lack of a deal on the filibuster has blocked an "organizing resolution" from clearing the Senate. Republicans still chair Senate committees even though they are no longer in the majority. Biden aims for the package to build on an earlier $900 billion virus aid plan from last month which he repeatedly called a "down payment."

Isn't that ironic?

I'd rather see justice. Than get paid . By the government.

Instead of healing and helping Americans, the dems are wasting precise time and resources on revenge. Pretty pathetic priorities. I say hold off Congress paychecks till 100+ million Americans have gotten the Covid vaccine. For sure, Congress saw that they got their vaccines.

Dems have already said they are going to pass this using reconciliation. They should not take until mid-MARCH
