DUBAI - Saudi Arabia will invest more than $20 billion in its domestic military industry over the next decade as part of aggressive plans to boost local military spending, the head of the kingdom’s military industry regulator said on Saturday. The Gulf state wants to develop and manufacture more weapons and military systems domestically, aiming to spend 50% of the military budget locally by 2030.

“The government has put a plan that we will be investing in excess of $10 billion in the military industry in Saudi Arabia over the next decade and equal amounts on research and development,” Governor of the General Authority for Military Industries Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Ohali told a defence conference in Abu Dhabi.

He also said the kingdom plans to increase military research and development spending from 0.2% to around 4% of armaments expenditure by 2030.

Saudi Arabia should focus more on human rights, especially women's rights rather than creating an army of killers to maybe use against Yemen.

It is a pity. The military exp if it were to be diverted to the needy people to provide them basic human needs of food, shelter and clothing and of course medicine(vaccine), the world would have been a much safer& better place to live. The hands that make the bullet takes life.

Good for Saudi - less dependence of the West for arms - more Islamic nations should wean themselves off the Western military complex and develop state of the art technology and armaments “in house”. The Turks are leading the way...

I believe we spend 30 times this annually

For what.🤣🤦‍♂

They have alot of money 🤣🤣🤣

Geewizz, I wonder what countries will do the supplying

KSA should invest in bitcoin lol

Good idea, Saudi have a weak military, US flip flop on arms sales, and are under pressure from Iran in Yemen. A strong Saudi is good for Middle East.

War............
